GOOD SHEPHERD AFFILIATION :
Since their beginnings, the Sisters of the Good Shepherd of Quebec have collaborated with lay people called to live the same evangelical values as the community. From this cooperation was born the Good Shepherd Affiliation. Learn more
THE GOOD ONES :
Many families in Quebec hired one or more “maids” to take care of the children and do housework. The Good Shepherd was no exception. The Good Shepherd maids worked in the nursery or in another of our houses. Some of them are still protégés of the congregation.
THE OBLATES OF MARY :
A community within the community... Oblates participate in the Good Shepherd mission through their life of prayer and sacrifice. They were better known to the public thanks to their great skill for the invisible cover.
The Sisters of the Good Shepherd, the first community of Quebec origin founded in 1850, engaged in so-called invisible darning work, in workshops on the floors above their laundry room for the public. They did the washing and repaired the laundry entrusted to them. In these workshops, they developed skills and techniques for repairing linen.
In the 1930s, they communicated their discoveries to their sisters in Bethany who founded the Association of Oblate Sisters of Mary while remaining under the aegis of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd of Quebec.
The Oblate Sisters will continue this work and, over the years, will push this learning further by developing new methods, which will become their livelihood for them.
THE SISTERS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD OF RWANDA :
Young African community which lives the Good Shepherd mission and spirituality in a spirit of peace, forgiveness and reconciliation, values so important in a country which has been torn apart by war and a terrible genocide.
